Ella Walding
Head of Service Design
Ella is a Senior Service Design Consultant with a particular interest in using service design to achieve social justice for vulnerable groups: she believes that service design can be transformative in offering hope to those who face tough challenges in life.
Ella is working on Better Endings – a year-long programme that is creating new solutions for end of life care in Lambeth and Southwark. She is currently developing a new service for carers who are supporting people at the end of life, looking at ways of building resilience and emotional well-being through coaching. She is also working to transform children’s services in Wigan by implementing a new model that creates a wraparound service for young people using an asset-based approach.
Ella has experience in strategic design, where she has made change happen in complex adaptive systems and developed effective performance frameworks. Before Innovation Unit, Ella led and implemented a variety of projects including the development of a new vision for the Shaw Trust; changing the structure and quality of support for Street Champions in Lambeth; working with a secondary school in a deprived area to raise young people’s aspirations; and implementing a new change management system across the Government of Malta, for which she won Service Design Network’s International Service Design Award for Organisational Impact in Government 2017.

Ella Walding wins International Service Design Award 2017
Congratulations to Ella Walding for winning Service Design Network’s International Service Design Award for her project helping the Maltese Government to apply design thinking and make change happen.
